Date & Time: 16:30 – 18:00 on 27th December

Venue: Meeting Room No.1 (8th floor)

Title of the talk: Understanding the meaning of money to improve
social performance in microfinance: a case study of the savings and credit
model in Togo

Abstract:
Matching products and services with the needs of the clients to improve
their living conditions is one of the main components of social performance
expected of microfinance. Many social performance tools have been developed
in order to encourage and to reinforce social performance management. The
outreach and the adequacy of the product and services are some of the key
indicators developed for this purpose. The use of these indicators, however,
requires a better understanding of the meanings of money. Considering the
performance challenges facing microfinance institutions (MFIs) in West
Africa, the presentation explores the link between cultural norms and values
of monetary exchanges, and MFIs’ social performance.
